Our exhibition “Cultura Viva: Knowledge of the Amazon in Images” did not remain solely in San Borja. We had the pleasure of taking it with us up the Maniqui River to the communities where most of the photographs were taken. As we travelled from community to community, many Tsimane’ people helped to reshape the exhibition according to their own vision, making it a dynamic and participatory event. Visitors compared cultural practices, discussed why certain practices are no longer carried out whilst others are, and talked about the materials depicted in the photographs. In this way, we were able to build a bridge of knowledge between the upper and lower Maniqui River. Furthermore, some people recognised relatives or acquaintances in both the modern and historical photographs, which was particularly moving.
