Introducing the IEK-CHANGES project logo

January 15, 2025

We are delighted to share the new visual identity of the IEK-CHANGES project. Our logo was beautifully designed by environmental scientist and illustrator Mar Cartró-Sabaté, who translated the spirit of our research into an image that captures what lies at the heart of this project.

The illustration depicts a quiet yet powerful moment: a Tsimane’ woman sharing knowledge with a child beneath the shade of a majestic tree. In her hands, she holds a leaf of Geonoma deversa, a palm whose leaves are traditionally used by Tsimane’ families to thatch the roofs of their homes. This small scene reflects something deeply meaningful to u: the intergenerational transmission of Indigenous environmental knowledge, passed from one generation to the next through everyday interactions, care, and shared time in the forest.

For us, this image represents the very essence of IEK-CHANGES. Indigenous environmental knowledge lives not only in stories or practices, but also in relationships: between people, generations, and the landscapes they inhabit. Through this project, we hope to better understand how this knowledge changes through time, while also contributing to its recognition and continuity.

We are deeply grateful to Mar Cartró-Sabaté for capturing the soul of the project with such beauty.
