This year, for International Women’s Day, we couldn’t join the global demonstrations advocating for equal rights and an end to sexual violence, as we were back in the field. Instead, we marked the day by inviting the women of the village for coffee and beignets—prepared by Salomón—and a conversation about what they would change in their community if they were Corregidor. Their ideas ranged from improving the local health center and encouraging children to learn music, to ensuring food security for all. It was a beautiful, joyful, and empowering way to spend March 8th.
We also want to give a special shoutout to the 12 women of the IEK-CHANGES team—researchers, students, advisors, and project managers—whose strengths, commitment, and teamwork make this research possible.
