We are delighted to share that Sven Kock has successfully defended his MSc thesis “Characterizing Tree Diversity Patterns in Indigenous Peoples’ Lands: Addressing Often-Overlooked Data Limitations and Biases”, developed within the framework of the IEK-CHANGES project and co-supervised by Jorge C. Llopis and Álvaro Fernández-Llamazares.
A student in the MSc programme in Interdisciplinary Studies in Environmental, Economic and Social Sustainability at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Sven presented an outstanding piece of research, which was awarded an impressive 9.6 out of 10. His thesis examines structural biases in global biodiversity datasets and demonstrates how these limitations can systematically undervalue the conservation importance of Indigenous Peoples’ lands in Bolivia. Methodologically rigorous and conceptually ambitious, Sven’s work contributes to ongoing debates on data justice, conservation science, and equity.
Congratulations, Sven, on this fantastic achievement. We are incredibly proud of you and look forward to seeing where your journey takes you next!
