IEK-CHANGES Ethics Workshop with Prof. Jerome Lewis

May 24, 2025

From May 22–24, 2025, the IEK-CHANGES team was delighted to welcome Dr. Jerome Lewis (University College London, UK), the project’s appointed Ethics Advisor, for a dedicated workshop held at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). The visit provided an invaluable opportunity to review the project’s ethical approach, discuss progress to date, and ensure that all forthcoming field activities uphold the highest ethical standards. Together, we examined our procedures for ethical clearance, data protection and sovereignty, and Free, Prior and Informed Consent, as well as our commitment to building equitable and respectful partnerships with the Tsimane’ Indigenous community in Bolivia. This workshop reaffirmed our firm commitment to conducting thoughtful, responsible, and community-centred research at every stage of the project.
