Documenting Tsimane’ mushroom knowledge

August 31, 2025

No one has ever written about the relations the Tsimane’ have with the realm of fungi! We’re excited as we are now starting to document the Tsimane’ knowledge of mushrooms, a topic so far has been overlooked by the scientific community. Interestingly, only few Tsimane’ people seem to know the names of mushrooms or their uses, and most people say that such knowledge was much more common in the past. It feels rewarding to help the Tsimane’ in their efforts to strengthen and revive domains of knowledge that are eroding from their collective wisdom and understanding. And of course, look at them: we’re very excited to learn about all those crazily beautiful mushrooms!
