Jorge, our team’s travelling geographer, has ventured beyond the Maniqui River, the main focus of our research, and is now on a journey across the ancestral Tsimane’ homelands. He recently visited the Ixiamas area in the La Paz department, the northernmost region inhabited by the Tsimane’ people, which has been heavily affected by logging for decades. In this region, the Tsimane’ live in three communities nearby the Undumo River. These settlements were founded over forty years ago by families who migrated from the middle Maniqui River, initially seeking employment opportunities offered by logging companies. Some decided to stay due to the abundance of wild meat and fish. Around Ixiamas, Jorge carried out interviews with community authorities and elders to gain insights into the area’s history of settlement and forest use.
