IEK-CHANGES on the air: sharing stories from the Bolivian Amazon

July 21, 2026

What can the Tsimane’ people teach us about living well? How is Indigenous environmental knowledge passed from one generation to the next? And what is it really like to spend weeks working in one of the world’s most culturally and biologically diverse regions in the world?

These were just some of the topics explored by Álvaro Fernández-Llamazares and filmmaker Aner Etxebarria during a recent interview on “Historias del Mundo”, the travel and exploration segment of Radio Euskadi’s Boulevard programme. Drawing on their latest field campaign in the Bolivian Amazon, they shared stories from the field, memorable encounters, and reflections on the importance of documenting and understanding Indigenous environmental knowledge in a rapidly changing world.

Beyond the science, the conversation offered a glimpse into the human side of IEK-CHANGES: the friendships forged in the field, the lessons learned from Tsimane’ communities, and the privilege (and enormous responsibility) of working together to document and celebrate the rich biocultural heritage of the Tsimane’ people.

You can listen to the conversation here, after creating an account with your e-mail address. A big thank you to the whole team at Radio Euskadi for inviting us to share the journey. We hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed the conversation!
